The Challenge
A seven-year-old splits her week across three homes with three co-parents. Paper chore charts don't survive that: each house kept its own rules, rewards drifted between households, and motivation faded within days of any new system.
The family wanted one consistent system every household could trust, with a shared record of what was earned, spent, and approved. And it had to be engaging enough that the child would open it herself, not another app the grown-ups have to police.
What We Built
ChoreCraft is an installable web app with a pixel-art game world. The kid view is the default screen on her iPad: completing a chore submits a claim, a parent approves it from any of the three homes, and coins land in a real ledger that backs everything else. A single shared PIN unlocks parent mode, and every fine, bonus, and approval is logged and reversible.
Retention is engineered like a game, because it is one. Ranks, streaks with forgiving rest days, weekly quests with a prize chest, mystery chests, a savings vault that pays interest, and a shop of unlockable themes, pets, and accessories. An arcade mini-game starring her own pet opens only when most of the day's chores are done. New unlockable themes are generated on a schedule by the Anthropic API, each with its own palette and currency, so there is always something new to save for without anyone writing content.
The live deployment is private to the family, so there is no public link on this one.
